Domino Sandwich Number 2 (1936) on Sandwiches of History⁣
It makes sense that 1,001 Sandwiches of 1936 would have a section on novelty sandwiches. I mean, 1,001 sandwiches is a lot! Today, we’re taking on the Domino Sandwich Number 2 which, I have to say, is way better than Domino Sandwich Number 1 (just kidding, I haven’t made that one yet). It’s pretty straightforward if not tasty.

Sweet and Savory Sardine Sandwich (our history) on Sandwiches of History⁣
Просмотров 6 тыс.2 часа назад
Time for another sandwich of our history and today we are making one provided by Salem watches on RUclips about how is grandpa used to make this. I cannot express enough how shocked I was at the outcome. When I first read the ingredients involved I thought there was no way this would get anywhere near ok let alone tasty. Well, it just goes to show ya, staying curious has its perks. And if you’r...
Pimento and Asparagus Sandwich (1917) on Sandwiches of History
Просмотров 7 тыс.4 часа назад
Like the classic combo of peanut butter and jelly, finally, the great taste asparagus meets the sweet goodness of pimento! What? That’s not a thing? Hmm, I severally misread the room here. At any rate this light little tea sandwich from Salads and Sandwiches of 1917 has spared us the use of canned asparagus. And for that I am immensely grateful. Frankfurter and Chili Sauce Sandwich (1951) on Sandwiches of History⁣
Просмотров 8 тыс.7 часов назад
I have to say, naming your cookbook The Lunch Box and Every Kind of Sandwich takes some audacity. Every kind of sandwich?! Ok, if you say so. At any rate, today we’re taking on the rather transparently named Frankfurter and Chili Sauce Sandwich. There is a third ingredient not in the name which actually adds some zing so they kept some of the mystery alive. Pre-order your copy of Sandwiches of ...
Ghughra Sandwich: Double Cheese Gujarati Style (India) on Sandwiches of History⁣
Просмотров 8 тыс.9 часов назад
For International Sandwich Sunday today, we are headed to India for the Ghughra Sandiwch. More specifically, the double cheese Gujarati style. This sandwich, like almost all Indian food, promises to be packed with flavor. And because it is street food, it’s also going to have a slight unhealthy aspect. Which, of course makes it more delicious. I know I could have probably bought the green chutn...
Chicago Club (1909) on Sandwiches of History⁣
Просмотров 13 тыс.12 часов назад
Nothing in the recipe for the Chicago Club from The Up-To-Date Sandwich Book of 1909, screams Chicago to me. It does use two different types of bread. But both would’ve been readily available in any big city. On the plus side, there aren’t humdinger ingredients like the Milwaukee Club I did a while back (different book) that called for fried oysters (delicious but whaaaat?) Also, many will noti...
Sardine Loaf Sandwich (1936) on Sandwiches of History⁣

I think I speak for all of us when I say sometimes we have leftover sardines, hardboiled eggs, and mashed potatoes hanging around and are flummoxed on what to do. Well fret not lest ye be fretted for Florence A. Cowels, author of 1936’s 1,001 Sandwich has the answer! It’s the Sardine Loaf Sandwich. Yay. Want to check out the latest In The Chips with Barry? George Sandwich (1905) on Sandwiches of History⁣
Просмотров 9 тыс.16 часов назад
Today we’re cracking open what appears to be a British cookbook of yore. The name of the sandwich, George Sandwich, might be a clue. But the fact that there is a “u” in Salads, Sandwiches, and Savouries and that the cover says the price is “one shilling” are, in fact, much bigger clues. This sandwich uses a combo of meats that doesn’t sound unpleasant in the least. And it adds a third ingredien...
Roast Beef Sandwich with Anchovy Paste (1912) on Sandwiches of History⁣
Просмотров 7 тыс.19 часов назад
I know what you’re thinking, someone finally made roasted beef tolerable by adding anchovy paste. I am with you. Not. My hope (because apparently I don’t learn) for the Roast Beef Sandwich with Anchovy Paste from The Chafing-Dish published in 1912, was that the ratio of anchovy paste to beef might be ok. It wasn’t. But rather than binning it, I decided to save it. Did I succeed? Let us be the o...
Midnight Feast (1941) on Sandwiches of History⁣

When you name sandwich the Midnight Feast like 1941’s 500 Tasty Sandwiches did, you had better bring it. I mean, it’s got feast in the name. Well, turns out not only was this sandwich a double decker, it did have interesting flavors going on. Personally, I thought the third slice of bread was a bit much but what do I know? If the multi-day excursion that was yesterday’s Kumru sandwich from Turkey was too much of a journey for you, then you’ll really enjoy the epic simplicity of today’s Frankfurt Sausage Sandwich from The Up-To-Date Sandwich Book of 1909. Kumru (Turkey) on Sandwiches of History⁣

Today is International Sandwich Sunday and we are headed to Turkey to make the Kumru. While I was able to find the sausage for this sandwich, finding kasseri, a sheep’s milk cheese proved a bit more difficult. Fortunately, the European market where I found the sausage had Kaşkaval which I understand to be a similar sheep’s milk cheese. As for finding the bread, no way. So I tried my hand at bak...
Meat and Potato Sandwich (1882) on Sandwiches of History

The Meat and Potato Sandwich from Miss Parloa’s New Cook Book of 1882 sure sound hearty, don’t it? Yeah, um, about that…it is…but it also lacks a certain ingredient found in most sandwiches that would make it even heartier. You know what, you’ll see what I mean. Gotta give credit to the authors of The Sandwich Book from 1900, today’s sandwich name is quite unique. The “Love In The Cottage” actually sounds pretty good. Once again I’m going to guess the score before watching the video: 0 Edit: The mayonnaise threw me for a loop but I would have guessed that it would bridge the olive and peanut butter

I love in-jokes. That music gets me every time. It's like Max Miller and hard tack (*clack, clack!*). lol Also, you made this into a double-butter domino :) I assume this one was chosen because you were a leeeetle tired of anchovy paste. :)

Blackcurrant jam is delicious. I found out that long ago, it was the favored accompaniment to peanut butter in a sandwich - of course with the crusts cut off. I tried it and it sure beats grape jelly. Almost makes peanut butter sophisticated.
